RIGID INFLATABLE AND HIGH-SPEED WORKBOATS

Future Apprentice Insight Day

At Marine Specialised Technology, we recently welcomed potential future apprentices into MST for a hands-on Apprentice Insight Day, supported through our work with The Engineering College.

This formed part of our apprentice interview stage, but it was much more than a standard interview. It gave candidates the chance to step into our working environment, meet the team and get a real feel for what a career in marine engineering could look like.

They worked on:

⚙️ Basic mechanical fitting tasks
📐 Reading simple engineering drawings
🛠️ Measuring, marking, and practical workshop activities
🚤 Understanding how these skills support boat building

The purpose was simple. Give young people from the local area a proper insight before they start their journey.

By working with the engineering college, we can help connect classroom learning with real workshop experience. That gives future apprentices a clearer view of the skills, standards and mindset needed in industry. For MST, apprenticeships are not just about filling roles.

They are about:

✅ Investing in local people
✅ Supporting the community
✅ Working with local education providers
✅ Developing future engineering skills
✅ Strengthening the marine industry
✅ Building the next generation of MST talent

A good apprenticeship starts with interest, attitude, and the chance to get hands-on.

Skills can be taught.
Confidence can be built.
Careers can start here.

Great to see the group getting involved, asking questions and experiencing what practical engineering is really about.
