UK Ambassador to Italy Supports Collaboration Between MST, BMT & Baglietto Shipyard

The Rt Hon Edward Llewellyn OBE pledges support to the collaboration between Baglietto Shipyard and its British partners; MST Group and BMT.

On 17th January, a collective group of Italian politicians, coast guard, military leaders and UK government and military representatives met at Baglietto’s La Spezia shipyard to discuss and further support the ongoing partnership between the trio. Originally founded in 2022, the partnership was established to improve military product offerings made by MST and Baglietto Navy using R&D conducted by BMT.

Hosted by Baglietto CEO, Diego Michele Deprati, the visit comprised of formal presentations, a tour of the Shipyard and an inspection of MST’s FIC-1700 interceptor craft.

The vessel was successfully delivered in December 2024 to the Carabinieri Special Intervention Group (GIS), the special forces unit of the Carabinieri which is a branch of the Italian Armed Forces. During the vessel transition to the end-user, MST’s team conducted user familiarity and operational training aboard the craft.

A second FIC-1700 vessel is also in build at MST’s Bromborough headquarters and is anticipated to be delivered this year.

A notable supporter of the partnership was Lord Edward Llewellyn (pictured right), the appointed British Ambassador to Italy in February 2022, who is keen to discover the invaluable engineering and innovation each company can offer to the Italian military market.

We have been honoured by the presence of the British Ambassador.

An occasion that highlights the strong bond between our countries. The sharing of skills and knowledge coming from the business relations we are developing, especially in the navy sector through the partnerships with the BMT and MST companies, add value both in terms of design and product development and represent a key factor for progress and common security.

Martin Bissuel, Head of Sales for BMT’s Commercial Maritime division, said:

It was an honour to represent BMT alongside our valued partner, MST, as part of the British delegation of trade and defence experts. Together, we showcased the innovation that emerges from our strong collaboration and the broader partnership between the UK and Italian industry.
